roll out.

me and my homies, we got so much money.

thus, the hilarity AND effectiveness of world market's ludacris reference in hawking their rug sale is NOT LOST on me.

roll out, indeed.

you can't stop that.

I KNOW YOU WANT IT.

i've been living under a rock, and i don't want to talk about it, but this rock fortunately has speakers. thank heavens, because i cannot stop listening to blurred lines. and by that i mean watching the video(s) (#THICKE) - naked version or not naked version, and now also this version. god bless jimmy fallon, y'all.

just chill till the next episode.

hey girl heeeee-eeyyy. i'm not just covered up with amazing interior design projects these days, i'm also throwing back-to-back baby showers and rescuing stray dogs and selling a house and buying a new house and said new house may or may not be super old and full of termites and maybe it needs a gut renovation anyway? IT IS MY DREAM HOUSE Y'ALL. the goal is to be back on some sort of regular-ish blogging schedule soon, says my new marketing consultant, who is also going to oversee the launch of my new website, because that shit is almost ready to drop but will take me another seven months if i have anything to do with it.

so there is a lot going on, allegedly.

in the meantime, here is a video that everyone probably saw like three months ago, but is new to me and i've only watched it like seventeen times today, but only because it is funny and relaxes me and not because i've got a strange news-crush on brian williams (I DON'T, HE'S GROSS AND TOTALLY DID NOT STEAL MY HEART WHEN HE HOSTED SNL A FEW YEARS AGO).

GIRLS: i don't care.

that's the name of the song, folks. i TOTALLY care about GIRLS, mainly because EVERYTHING, including this song from this week. i mean, didja even see that last episode? i've watched it thrice already. was it the best GIRLS ever so far? probably. allz i need now is a mesh tank top.

allz i want.

hey nerds. i have daydreamed the beginnings to several blog posts before being yanked into the reality that is my life now, where i am busier (and happier) than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest, but i did want to take a moment to tell you that with the help of sugarbear, we got our tree up last night!! and the wreath on the door, and some lights in the front yard. CHRISTMAS IS HERE, Y'ALL, whether houston's weather knows it or not (it does not). also, since this is an educational blog, you should know that when your mother-in-law tells you she is getting a new tree and you can have her old one, what she may or may not mean is that she needs her gently-used tree (with half of the pre-lit lights not working) hauled away. to be fair, this tree was up in her house for about eleven months last year, getting year-round love, so that could be how the lights burned out. as for the major Tower of Pisa Lean, i like to think it's EDGY. our tree is like SLANT FACE, in your face. lean back, it's christmas. or something like that.

i will say that the tree is about twelve times too large for our house, but in the interest of having a tree AT ALL this year (we skipped the tree last year), we just went for it. i have mentioned before that b-radical is the handiest person ever (with the greatest hairdo, natch) so he was actually able to get 95 percent of those lights working and the ones that don't work have been relegated into the corner so you can't even tell. and if you can tell, we will just pour bird dog down your gullet until your eyes cross. (um, please follow me on instagram for more major adventures with bird dog.)

anyway, all this is to lead into this great video but now i've run out of time and that usually cuts into the manufacturing of witty comments, so here it is sans clever segue: mimi beltin' out some xmas tunes with questlove and jimmy fallon over elementary school musical instruments, with a bunch of kids in cute hats. please note that questlove uses the pick from him hairs to play his instrument. ho ho ho!!

holy shit, solange.

ZOMG Y'ALL. as you may recall, i am a huge fan of ms. SOLANGE knowles, and that was before this had happened. clearly, miss ma'am has been spying on me and stealing some of my better dance moves.

the mother we share.

i'm about to visit the upholstery shop and then install some black-out drapery this morning LIKE A BOSS, but first, let's listen to this new CHVRCHES (churches?) song a few more times. i've pretty much had it on repeat for the last 2 hours. SOMEONE PLEASE MASH IT WITH USHER ASAP.

and also, if you need a visual of what the one-man dance party at my house has looked like this AM, here are some photos of me acting a fool on the dance floor at sugarbear's sister's wedding (aka SBSW). i'd be mortified by these photos, except they seem to get taken every time i attend a wedding. good grief.

please note maggie and james' reaction to the dance explosion happening before their eyes.
poor, poor b-rad. the dancing is only going to get more embarrassing as i get fatter and older, but here we are when people still thought i was normal. happy marriage meagan and rainey!!

the monday mash: call me maybe.

like everyone else on the planet, carly rae jepsen's jam has infiltrated my life, but this mash-up is something new and something wondrous. i feel like, when i die and my life flashes before my eyes, this mash will be the accompanying soundtrack. i haven't felt this invigorated since i saw that movie The Power of One in the 8th grade, or possibly since the first time a boy i liked told me that i was beautiful* (but i chalk that up partially to the fact that we were at a chili's sharing a skillet queso... that shit is pure magic in a cast iron package).

listen to it, download and share HERE: CALL ME MR. BURGANDY

*for the record, it was micah beck, sophomore year of college, approximately three minutes before he lost interest and went out with some girl named bevin.
*also for the record, this is probably the best use of a rusted root song since pure, unadulterated rusted root. same for skee-lo, same for fun., same for C-Ray Jeps.
*lastly for the record, you can (and i do) thank nick nelson for this and probably any other rad tunes i have to share. way to keep me feeling at least six years younger than i actually am, nick.
i feel like blog posts without pictures are super lame, so here i am with my brother brad (on the right) and his/our friend nick at the beginning of our segway tour of chicago, which remains to this day on of the funnest and funniest things i have ever done in my life. actually, go ahead and put their entire trip to chicago on that list. it was the the bomb dot com and should probably be it's own blog post or series. october 2005.

since i've veered considerably off course, this is probably a great time to share a video (from conan, sent to me by my brother brad) of jack mcbrayer and triumph the insult comic dog, at chicago late night spot, the weiner's circle, a special eatery of which was also part of 'brad and nick's killer trip to chi, 2005'.

call me maybe?

this is quite possibly the most adorable thing i have ever seen. way to go, jimmy fallon. way to also go, carly rae jepsen. i can. not. get. this song out of my head.

rest in peace, MCA.

damn. visionary musician adam yauch has passed away at 47 after battling cancer. it's incredibly sad and for whatever reason, hits a little too close to home. the beastie boys were a tremendous part of my adolescence and i will never forget the day my dad ripped Paul's Boutique out of my tape deck and threw it out the window. rest in peace, MCA.

white panda wednesday.

it's no lie: i love a musical mashup, evidenced by multiple posts prior on the flashdance and girl talk. if you love a badass mashup as much as i do, or if you just enjoy shaking your ass can, you WILL LOVE this white panda biznazz.

like say if you love weezer and that song TIPSY?

or maybe you like jay-z and jackson 5 and lil' wayne, and are like, why did they not exist at the same time and get a group together? and why did michael have to die?

skee-lo and that break your heart song? by taiaiaio cruz or something? MAGICALLY BLENDED INTO ONE.

or maybe you like a slow jam because your name is lauren walsh, and you wish you could combine that with an owl city track?

so alls i'm saying is that these crazy hipster computer nerds are GREAT and just what the doctor ordered this wednesday. if i weren't going to the masters, i'd totally get my buns to austin on april 7th to see them play (spin? compute? mash?) in person. tickets here, jill.

indie hipster band alert.

confession time: i had heard of these clowns previously but they didn't fully register in my ears until i saw a do-over of their hit 'we are young' on glee. I KNOW I KNOW. but don't hate on me hipsters, because i drive a 2002 toyota 4runner with a tape deck (GOLDIE) and my commute every day is 10 minutes round trip, making New Music Listenin' Time kind of limited. anyway, FUN. it is a band; you will like them. their new album comes out drops next month and this song is on there, but i recommend getting album numero uno (aim and ignite) as there are some cheerful numbers you'll enjoy. like these:

stockholm syndrome.

i'm having a super swedish moment, having just read the dragon tattoo series over thanksgiving and then seeing the david fincher film version of the first book this weekend (RAPEY). plus i've always loved teddybears (and ABBA, but i will save that for another day).

the day after cyber monday.

it's internet hangover tuesday, y'all! or at least that's what i'm calling it. in an effort to get on board with cyber monday, i pretty much live-tweeted the second half of sister act 2: back in the habit... and aaaaaaaaalllll i got was internet crickets. this has prompted me to wonder what is wrong with all of you? where is your holiday cheer? they were singing songs about JESUS, people, so don't act like you didn't see and love that movie, okay? i also want to point out that if you are one of those people who doesn't "do twitter," you are missing out on a real tweeting goldmine, such as this (and you have to go to the bottom and read up, that's how twitter works):
PS-it's totally not too late to get on board and follow me on twitter, just like BabySignLanguage, who started following me last night circa that tweet about lauryn hill and sign language, so they OBVIOUSLY understand that my tweets are not only super awesome, but integral to the education of your baby or small child. le duh. (BabySignLanguage, if you followed me in a hurry like wes anderson did, and then rapidly unfollow me, also just like wes anderson did, i am going to be super disappointed. as for you, wes anderson, you are still not forgiven.)

and just in case you took too much nyquil or had a broken tv set or something last night and missed this cinematic masterpiece ON ACCIDENT, i'll cut to the big climax scene:

that time lykke li played at restoration hardware.

totally the set list.
so i mentioned yesterday that i'd gone to the opening night party at the spankin' new highland village restoration hardware flagship. i did not, however, mention that LYKKE LI WAS THERE, because i wanted to save that nugget for today. lykke effing li, via sweden, via my ears, and i couldn't believe it. you know, because when you think of quality belgian linens and suede pillows, you think of edgy, swedish music. also not believable was that lykke li had no business in houston (or texas) whatsoever, so those restoration hardware codgers imported LL and company from oakland, california, and then had them play just SIX SONGS and then they left immediately for a  show in denver the next night. which explains why RH sofas go for six zillion dollars... because they are flying cutting-edge it-bands around the globe. but on the upside, i got to go to a lykke li concert, in houston, fo' free y'all, and i will estimate that i was one of about 30 people who knew what was going on. thankfully this guy was there shooting video the whole time. i like how you can see the large topiary ball in the first video.

OH, AND THE NEW RESTORATION HARDWARE STORE OPENED. i totally forgot about that. it is cool, and it is huge. there was a birdcage on the third floor with actual birds in it, and then there are also huge birdcages with chandeliers inside, so they are prepared to address several of your birdcage needs. the outdoor area was lovely and had great views, but honestly, that place is just huge. i haven't been back since the party, but i suspect they brought more merchandise out post-party as there were not that many things actually for sale there, but here are some images.
i was waiting for monica pope to hop in the tub, but no dice.

birdcage chandies.

i really like the weird birdcage shadows.

suede macramé pillow, $700. just kidding. $129.

those ropes are like 3" in diameter, for scale.

arty.

blurry.

sometimes it lasts.

as long as you have functional ears on your head, you are susceptible to, at some point in your life, admitting that adele has quite possibly the most amazing voice of our time. this particular song is both SO good and SO sad that it has both b-rad and i sitting here with monday night football on mute, secretly wishing we were in the wicked throes of former heartbreak, if only to enjoy the misery to a fuller extent.* break out the tissues and ice cream, because no one would blame you for listening to it more than once. and this shit is LIVE.

*but seriously. bittersweet though the trip down memory lane may be, i'm unspeakably thankful that sads of this magnitude are over. for. rills.

what i want for my birthday.

i am 32 years awesome tomorrow. were i able to showcase my moves in a video like this, starring the housemates of casa wilson-luebe(johnson), this day could only be awesome-er. audrey, b-rad? can you make this happen? {via the glamourai.}

people i admire: beck.

dear beck, you are a badass and i heart you big time. pitchfork has a great article out right now on one of my most favorite musicians ever, BECK. whether i was cool or not in high school, i was smart enough to purchase mellow gold and odelay (thanks, 12 for the price of one BMG Music Club). do y'all remember seeing beck perform at the grammys in... 1997 i guess? TWO TURN TABLES AND A MICROPHONE. bottles and cans and just clap your hands and just clap your haaaaannnnndddssss. and then he effing won*. it kind of changed my life.

fast forward to now, and he's doing things like beck's record club, which incidently, produced the impetus for audrey's vocal performance at my wedding. (sidenote--thanks again for doing that, audrey. 'need you tonight' by audrey and the strings is probably going to be everyone's favorite part in the movie about my life, you know.)
*and fiona apple was the presenter? YOU TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT HER, RIGHT?

{photos via the article, taken by Autumn de Wilde.}

jack be nimble, jack be quick.

thank god for chevy chase and lindsey buckingham, right? and christie brinkley. she is just lovely. probably the best dancing with a beverage i've seen in awhile.
