people i admire: abigail ahern.
i knew about a hundred years ago that abigail ahern was cool, when i first saw this
because if there's one thing i love, it's an animal lamp. naturally, anyone making these in bulk is a gal (or dude) after my own heart, so i was thrilled to see that the selby had visited AA's cozy london digs. have y'all seen this on the selby, or possibly elsewhere? surely i'm not the first to re-blog, but i just love it. that flat grey fireplace is to die for (srsly what is that color) and i could eat her turquoise table. also, that giant cobalt floor lamp from her collection? BARG. need.

people i admire: jenna lyons.
did y'all read that AMAZING nymag article about j. crew's jenna lyons? you should. i have been known to poo-poo on her for no reason at all but i will admit that i was wrong. i am tardy to the party where we all have a girl crush on J-LY (i mean, i've really changed my jcrew tune since the effing skirts got longer), but i think my crush has more to do with who she is in general, not just her style or what she's done for that brand. you have to admire someone who sews and is awkward and super weird (and wears dentures???) and has worked her ass off. from personal, unfamous experience i can tell you that is not an easy life to live, homies. not everyone is nice to the weird tall girl. anyway, read it here.

spirit animal.
i was flipping through the latest anthro catalog and about died when i saw this amazing party animal wallpaper. seriously, is that a badger wearing an eyepatch drinking a cocktail, hanging out with a mandolin-playing squirrel while a sloth smokes a hookah? YES PLEASE.
for starters, i've been very into black rooms lately. you might know that if you followed my pinterest. two, there has been lots of talk about spirit animals over here at casa wilson-luebe/johnson (that's right... the one and only audrey has temporarily taken up residence here and it. is. awesome. brad gets to have sister wives and audrey and i get to live in a never-ending slumber party). audrey is an ostrich and b-rad is OBVIOUSLY a bear (the kind that eats honey and steals pic-a-nic baskets, not the kind that killed grizzly adams), but it took me awhile to figure it out. i wanted to pretend i'm a beautiful unicorn but let's face it: i am not that graceful, elegant or mysterious. i'd also like to pretend that i'm a honey badger, but that's mainly because of hilarious commentary on recent honey badger footage. in reality (and seriously, what isn't REAL about a spirit animal?) i think i am a FOX.
have y'all seen the amazing animal portraits over at berkley illustration? i want one of all of them. they are hilarious, especially the bat.
**update: not the first time i've gone on and on about these berkley prints, apparently. le whoops. at least i'm consistent.

"This bat is a lover of the nightlife, especially 80s Karaoke night. He always gets the crowd going with his falsetto rendition of "Dancing In The Dark"."
i'm also a huge fan of the lion, goat, and bears. and badger, all of whom have an interesting tale to share. how awesome would this be in your kid's room?

I'M BACK I'M BACK I'M BACK!!
heavens to betsy, bitches. july really stunk and so did august, but i'm here to tell you that just when you are starting to think things won't improve, THEY DO. so many dankes to those of you who cared... all three of you. just jokes! it was really like four of you. FIVE, if you count the badasses over at ceylon et cie, who totally gave me a shout-out on michelle nussbaumer's blog after i wrote about my trip to visit their amazing shop in dallas. you may recall seeing ms. nussbaumer in last month's house beautiful, showing off her tricked-out custom truck (the NUSS-BOMB? that is what i'd call it anyway).
anyway, this makes me feel really cool. i was too busy being down in the dumpholes to notice this occurred way back in july, so lesson learned: internet slumps and general feeling sorry for myself need only last for a few days at the most, so i'm back. look forward to stories about steve the dog and lots of posts about things i'd buy or not buy at anthropologie/target/jcrew. maybe i will put some ideas for a new haircut on here. maybe i will post a scandalous tell-all about people who suck a bag of dicks! maybe i will show you some things i've pinned on my pinterest and, if my luck holds out, i will be able to post some super rad photos of design and-slash-or craft projects that have been happening. you just never know.

good riddance, month of july.
hola bitches. sorry the posting has been little to non-existent of late. july has been a real kick in the pants, not just because it's hotter than the blue blazes of hell outside and not just because work has been crazier than ever. aside from a whole lot of other bad shit happening around me, brad's nanna passed away july 10th, after what turned out to be a pretty ferocious battle with cancer. things were on their way back to normal when my grandpa passed away july 29th. so i've just returned from the saddest funeral i've ever attended, although i know all funerals are sad. i can honestly say that if you've never attended a funeral where the deceased was buried with military honors, you should prepare yourself a bit better than i did, because it's extremely emotional. anyway, i've got a girlfriends trip to new orleans on the horizon to prepare for, so i can be fun and not weird and not a complete burden to all my friends (and spouse). i've been doing a lot of that lately (burdening) and i don't think it's very cool, so sorry, friends; sorry, husband. if/when i come back to blogging, fully expect that it will be more fun and light-hearted and not so forced.
xoxo-kristina.
ps-here are some pretty sweet pictures of our grandparents. brad's nanna (what a dish, right?) was a feisty gal who enjoyed gardening and entertaining, while grandpa was a bit more rough around the edges and did things like get into car accidents with his uncle guggenheim, as evidenced by the scrapes and bandages about his face in the photo below. may they both rest in peace.
