here are some faves from a recent search for studies for a client... pretty sure none of these made the actual email to the client, but mama likey. also, some don't really look like a study, but they came up during my search so just roll with those punches, people. if you are searching for inspiration and are short on time, you don't need to go much further than the archives at elle decor, house beautiful, and so on. great photos, easy saving capabilities, simple searching.

an ode to theodore.
i know everyone and their designer-breed dog saw this sofa in elle decor this month, but i have mad, mad love for chesterfield sofas and nailheadery in general, so it warrants a totes ridix post. if you don't like it, go read someone's blog about how fast their kids are growing or something. otherwise, enjoy my first attempt at poetry in form other than the limerick or haiku:
oh theodore! my greedy eyes behold
your flax-y linen splendor, tufted curves,
intoxicating square nailhead trim
woe, as you seem strange in sectional form
insulting your perfect symmetry, for
my husband will not be moved, it will be
a sectional with chaise lounge or nothing
when we at last upgrade our furniture
of the sofa variety, but you
haunt my dreams, you bright earl of elegance

roll & hill lighting.
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNGGG. did y'all read the ellie decor article on jason miller, designer and founder of roll & hill, the contemporary lighting company featuring young lighting designer badasses such as lindsey adelman? you should read that shiz STAT. and then you should check out roll & hill and try to buy some of those fixtures. i know they're made of glass and metal, but i could straight-up munch on those teardrop sconces.
channeling my inner jonathan adler.
if you managed to miss the hot groupon deal for carter kustera custom portraits, well, you really blew the pooch, folks. these suckers (in a slightly larger size) retail on mah boo jonathan adler's site for $750, but for a limited-ish time, mr. kustera was cranking them out for $700 less. not sure about you people, but if JA signs off on something, i'm pretty much sold, so i ordered up the steve-and-ginger special (which turned out better than my wildest dreams). these hand-painted silhouettes also bear your choice of tag line, so with audrey and raina's approval, i went with
STEVE: possibly suffering from canine tourette syndrome.
GINGER: likes to lick people in the tonsils.
i need to get them framed but couldn't wait to share how awesome they are. raina and audrey, i would LOVE to see how yours turned out, unless your daughter (rcox) or sydney lynn (the burlesque-dancing cat) are too private to share. here are some others that i also find HIGH-larious.

tin type.
san francisco magazine (thanks, free president's club magazines!) featured this living room by steven volpe and i have been drooling over john dickinson's galvanized tin console (and other assorted tables) ever since (i certainly hope they don't rust). i know i've ruined the surprise, telling you it's metal (cheap metal, at that) before you figured it out, but isn't it lovely?

sneak peek: eames lounger.
more proof that i am actually a functioning designer and don't just play one on the internet: yesterday i installed a small living room project for a young client. her dad had given her his old, super dilapidated eames lounge chair and ottoman that people were actually afraid to sit in. we had some missing pieces and a broken base to deal with, plus there was no hope of salvaging the existing leather, so it took a little effort just to convince the client that the chair could be salvaged. and it could. boom goes the dynamite: kelly wearstler's katana fabric in dove. damn you, wearstler, for your rad-tastic patterns. it looks incredible in person, so sorry for the super terrible iphone pic (but i'm just doing my part to ensure that professional photographers get the respect they deserve). there is also a terrifying 'before' shot that i should post... so stay tuned whilst i scrummage that up. i think it's at the office. you might recognize this guy and his friend from west elm. ottoman is custom and covered in a schumacher print.

surprise like: windsor chairs.
DUDE. i didn't even think i liked windsor chairs, and then i saw this. so you're telling me those be-hotches will look amazing if they are simply painted an unexpected color? thanks mfamb.
so with these chairs on the brain, i suppose, i stumbled across this hot pink bentwood beauty on west elm. i don't recall if they ever sold them or not, but they don't now. still though... i am kind of obsessed with painted chairs.

mondrian soho.
so i will post more photos of the nyc project at some point, after we're done professionally photographing and then done whoring it out for awards and possible magazine attention, but until then, here are some new york things. please forgive my lack of organization on the mondrian photos... i am trying very hard to hit up the ol' b-log more often, and that may or may not mean i spend less time finessing these posts.
1. we stayed at the brand, spankin' new mondrian hotel in soho. it's new and super fly and had giant bottles of tequila in the rooms, which is probably why we rode the elevators with people like eva longoria's ex-piece tony parker (totally the shortest basketball player ever but much cuter in person than in those horrific eyebrow-featuring photos you see in us weekly) and 15-YEAR OLD (yes i am shouting) current it-model daphne groeneveld. she has the blondest eyebrows on the planet and like most adolescent females, travels with her mom. we also ran into noel fielding, which caused carolyn and her sister to FREAK OUT and make me feel like a nerd for not knowing who he is.
2. when not devouring the room service, we ate at imperial no. 9, the restaurant conveniently located inside the mondrian. if it sounds familiar, it's because you just saw it in your us weekly or in this month's elle decor. even though city correspondent stefon would describe it as a new york hot spot, we ate there because we area teensy bit extremely lazy when we travel for work because of the schedule. this is also a super opportunity to mention that due to mad concrete jungle busy-ness, we were either at the jobsite or at the hotel, so i am real sorry i didn't get an opportunity to text, see, have coffee with or even think about any of my nyc peeps, including my brother-in-law and some college pals. lo siento folks; i'm a doucher. anyway. hot sam from top chef is at the helm of IN9, and we were able to play it cool when he walked by, although paul, our jonathan rhys meyers look-alike waiter was not so lucky.
