do you think i'm tex-y?

yesterday wednesday when i went to visit vy (the most talented nail tech in houston), i nearly fell out of my cowboy boots to learn that opi's latest introduction of nail polishes is the TEXAS collection. as always, i'm tardy to this party, but i've long been a fan of opi products and clever color names in general. this assemblage truly goes above and beyond (aka deep in the heart of color? wonk wonk). to live in a place so remarkable that it has it's very own nail polish homage makes me quite proud. naturally i went with the houston-centric hue, because i am nothing if not fiercely loyal to space city, but some quick investigating revealed that aaaaallllll the way across this giant world in singapore, at the same time, audrey was getting coated with the shade devoted to galveston. the palette is fantastic, but the over-the-top photo shoot with a fiery redhead is also pretty rad. i'm not sure who the model is, but add her to my list of strawberry tressed stunners.
for a detailed listing of the entertaining colors, see below. seriously, i heart texas. and the masterminds over at opi, so it would seem.
Don’t Mess With OPI – lean, mean kick-grass green
Suzi Loves Cowboys – rich campfire chocolate
San Tan-tonio – the perfect honey tan
Austin-tatious Turquoise – bodacious blue green
It’s Totally Fort Worth It – shimmering lavender grey
I Vant To Be A-Lone Star – starry silver-blue
Do You Think I’m Tex-y – a ‘berry’ sexy shade
Houston We Have A Purple – galactic violet
Too Hot Pink to Hold ‘Em – a hot pink winning hand
Y’all Come Back Ya Hear? – Texan tangerine
Big Hair… Big Nails – rosy blush
Guy Meets Gal-veston – “engaging” coral

always a bridesmaid.

who's done re-hashing my wedding? not me. spoiler alert: these next 46 blog posts will probably be about my wedding. starting with m'ladies-in-waiting. my bridesmaids outfits were pretty. effing. awesome. it didn't hurt that my b-maidz are all knockouts to start out with... but their striped dresses were B-O-M-B. i mentioned at one point that i was on the hunt for striped dresses, but i don't know if i ever got around to following up with some inspiration shots, which are here:{images 1-4: louis vuitton (leighton meester!), image 4: no idea, image 6: dace, image 7: urban outfitters, image 8: no idea, image 9: j. crew, image 10: jessica stam in her undies}

i never found exactly what i was looking for, so we had these made by jenny kim here in houston. i should mention that going this route is not less expensive than, say, buying your dresses from anthropologie, but i don't think the cost was unreasonable. to keep the bridesmaids' costs lower and to keep myself from feeling like a total jerk, i paid for the fabric and the belts. on the other hand, part of the construction costs were inflated by the fact that i wanted them to be striped, and not solid or a pattern, because sewing stripes is more difficult due to matching the stripes perfectly at the seams. i also let the girls choose how they wanted their dresses to be cut (mainly the top area) but in the end, they all had them made the same way. and did i mention how pretty my friends are?? stunning. sadly, male readers of WWNC, they is all up and married (or about to be).along with my mom's entire outfit, most of the clothes i wore during the wedding weekend, my day-of jewelry and audrey's day-of jewelry, belts were from ann taylor. specifically, the collar studded belt by ann taylor. if they are out of 'em at your local AT, i highly recommend the practically identical exotic collar studded belt. or anything that is being sold at ann taylor. i love that store. le meow.

child fashion prodigy.

uh, nice try urban outfitters. i designed and made this top circa 1987, when i was about eight years old. my version was navy and white, and the bows had a snap closure that took forever to sew on. if you don't believe me, call cheryl.

project runway: PING.

i did myself a favor and watched the first three episodes of the new PROJECT RUNWAY last night. this is easily the best show on television, ever, because you get to watch the likes of ever-pregnant heidi klum and gems such as TIM GUNN (best manners ever, extensive vocabulary) and MICHAEL KORS (who could be a comedian if he ever gets tired of being a rich fashion designer)(and who i have already professed an undying love for, here). in addition to these stars, you have the contestants, a group comprised of extremely talented people and/or extremely crazy people (most of the time, they're both). the contestants duke it out over fashion (and by "fashion," i of course mean "making a cocktail dress out of potato sacks"). at least half of the contestants are completely deluded about their (lack of) talent, and this delusional type of crazy is definitely my favorite. take jesus, for instance, who said something like, 'as you can see, my SPECIALTY is eveningwear...' right before he got told that eveningwear was indeed, NOT his specialty, and then michael kors rattles off something about his model looking like a barefoot appalachian lil' abner barbie. however, this season's SHINING STAR is clearly PING, who was unfortunately booted last night. why they booted her, i don't know. they've kept less talented clowns on there for much longer for purposes of good tv, and trust me, PING equals good tv. PING is nuts. i could have watched three hours of PING-only footage, and still been happy. here's a small smattering of PING, but it really doesn't completely show how bonkers she is:
"you can wear it on the beach or inside the house, and it's very functional; it can also scrub the rest of the body." sure PING. loofah footwear is exactly what we need. that and more skirts that feature the ass-flap.
