jorge manuel: a bridal wonderland.

i've made no attempt to hide my deep and abiding love for all things COSTUME, and i would be lying if i said i wasn't dying to see the new tim burton/johnny depp version of alice in wonderland (in theaters this march!). i also may or may not have channeled gwen stefani one halloween, while she was in the middle of her alice-in-wonderland-meets-harajuku-girl phase. HOWEVER, i'm deeply conflicted by the following photos of the demetrius wedding collection by jorge manuel. on the one hand, refer to my aforementioned comments on how much i heart alice in wonderland. on the other hand, these pictures border on SUPER CREEPY, right? and it's a wedding shoot, correct? regardless, jorge manuel gets extra credit AND bonus points for this original, fascinating and gorgeous photo madness. click here to see more photos.

wedding colors: tea rose and roman coffee.

lately, people have been asking about my wedding colors (and my THEME, which i'm pretty sure is WEDDING), and they don't think it nearly as funny as i do when i respond BLUSH AND BASHFUL. the fact is, i am kind of angling for no colors. non-colors, if you will... neutrals, but not completely neutral. not PINK, but like a whisper of pink? barely pink? dusty rose? it's the kind of answer that i'm really embarrassed to give, and i can tell by the look on your face that you completely regret ever asking in the first place. so i really owe a huge thank you to this is glamorous for nailing it. henceforth, my wedding palette will be known as tea rose and roman coffee. i'm also mixing in a healthy dose of gray and a ton of old-school gold, you know, to class it up.

munchausen by proxy & and zooey deschanel.

i've hinted before of my undying love for zooey deschanel, but my girl crush just intensified... aside from being stylish and adorable, homegirl also has some pipes and has managed to get completely immersed in all things music. first of all, zooey teamed up with musician m. ward under the band name she & him. last year, she married one of the best musicians of our TIME (ben gibbard of death cab for cutie, the postal service and about ten other bands). confused yet? good.today i found out about a fake band she's a part of, called munchausen by proxy, which is/was a collaboration with a band called von iva for zooey's movie YES MAN (sidenote: no one actually saw that movie, right? and who the hell is picking these movies for zooey, anyway? except for 500 days of summer, they all BLOW. end sidenote). anyway, MBProxy recorded some songs (i think five total, if you count the star-spangled banner), and you can thank your lucky stars that all of them are on youtube. the outfits alone make it worth watching the videos and i'm DEFFO going to need the flamingo and big bird outfit come halloween. audrey-want to do another halloween as feathered friends?

an evening with elizabeth gilbert, or, if you know the outcome in advance, it isn't an adventure.

monday night, i had the pleasure of attending a benefit reading by ELIZABETH GILBERT, acclaimed author of eat, pray, love and more recently, committed: a skeptic makes peace with marriage.i've never been to a book reading or met a famous author before, and i must admit that i felt ladylike, educated and quite sophisticated (which is a real first for me). it was refreshing to learn that aside from being a terrific writer, elizabeth gilbert is also a completely unaffected, extremely normal person. she's also a fantastic public speaker and tremendously funny, as in, stand up comedy funny. since the new book (committed) is a follow-up to eat, pray, love, EG spoke about both books, explaining how one adventure led into the next. i'm really excited to crack into committed: ASMPWM, especially since we received a copy of the book and even more so since LIZ signed it for me (fancy!). stay tuned for my glowing book review, and in the meantime, do yourself a favor and locate a copy of eat, pray, love and READ IT. i won't stumble around trying to review E,P,L, other than to say there are over five million copies in print, so it's kind of a big deal. if you're not a big reader, you can wait until august and go see the movie, starring julia roberts and javier bardem.

thanks to my sad, middle-aged friends for joining me!

interior design: amy lau.

i was first turned on to amy lau when i saw this photo:
to quote audrey: who the h-e-double-hockey-stick is amy lau, and how do i get my greedy little paws on that AMAZING over-the-top dress/dog scarf ensemble? EGADS, indeed. i mean, i've always thought it would be great to coordinate my outfit with steve and/or ginger, but i never dreamed of putting them in oversized chiffon.

as it turns out, amy lau is a pretty talented interior designer (to put it mildly), and i'm specifically digging her nature-meets-modern style. it probably doesn't hurt that homegirl used to work with thomas o'brien, who is generally brilliant and can do no wrong. if you go to amy's website, make sure to drool-proof your keyboard. ps-i don't know what the lining in the bad-A wall bar cabinet is, but i would like 97 yards of it, STAT.

GIRL TALK: 10.

for those of you not familiar with GIRL TALK (aka crazy people that live under rocks), i'll do my best to educate you. basically, it's a one-man band (meaning a skinny white guy named greg) that resorts to cobra-level dj tricks to mash every song you've ever heard in to one album. GIRL TALK is hands-down the most dance-able music ever. and if you ever get the chance to see GIRL TALK play a live show, please know that your head will explode. then it will grow back, and explode again. imagine my excitement when i realized someone had edited the music videos to the pre-existing mixes. anyhow, watching this will help:

many thanks to brandee, who incidently CELEBRATES A BIRTHDAY today!

well played, ann taylor.

i cracked out of my jeans slump today* by wearing THE MOST FLATTERING DRESS EVER, courtesy of ann taylor. yeah, i said flattering and ann taylor: no longer your source for frumpy power suits, ever since some gal named lisa took over, completely revamped the lineup and hired heidi klum for the ad campaign. if you missed all the chit-chat about ann taylor's stylish rebranding, or if you didn't read the article where AT's stock had jumped something like 90%, i'm here to tell you that the new looks are totally working for me, in a banana republic kind of way (and who doesn't love banana?). in addition to being extremely forgiving to my recent mcdonald's french fry habit, my new dress is pretty effing cute, gives the impression that i've got a fergalicious apple-bottom booty (i don't) and looks AMAZING belted. one of the sales girls was wearing this dress when i last stopped by AT, and i nearly ripped it off her body in an effort to have my own (abby, you're a doll and thanks for not getting creeped out).
below are a few more things i wanted to pick up, and more photos of MUST-HAVE OUTFITS can be seen here. stay tuned for the blog post when i detail the massive amounts of delicious ann taylor jewelry i got for the wedding...
*only because i was having lunch with cally at a very fine dining establishment called MR. FU'S.

project runway: PING.

i did myself a favor and watched the first three episodes of the new PROJECT RUNWAY last night. this is easily the best show on television, ever, because you get to watch the likes of ever-pregnant heidi klum and gems such as TIM GUNN (best manners ever, extensive vocabulary) and MICHAEL KORS (who could be a comedian if he ever gets tired of being a rich fashion designer)(and who i have already professed an undying love for, here). in addition to these stars, you have the contestants, a group comprised of extremely talented people and/or extremely crazy people (most of the time, they're both). the contestants duke it out over fashion (and by "fashion," i of course mean "making a cocktail dress out of potato sacks"). at least half of the contestants are completely deluded about their (lack of) talent, and this delusional type of crazy is definitely my favorite. take jesus, for instance, who said something like, 'as you can see, my SPECIALTY is eveningwear...' right before he got told that eveningwear was indeed, NOT his specialty, and then michael kors rattles off something about his model looking like a barefoot appalachian lil' abner barbie. however, this season's SHINING STAR is clearly PING, who was unfortunately booted last night. why they booted her, i don't know. they've kept less talented clowns on there for much longer for purposes of good tv, and trust me, PING equals good tv. PING is nuts. i could have watched three hours of PING-only footage, and still been happy. here's a small smattering of PING, but it really doesn't completely show how bonkers she is:
"you can wear it on the beach or inside the house, and it's very functional; it can also scrub the rest of the body." sure PING. loofah footwear is exactly what we need. that and more skirts that feature the ass-flap.
